Founded by Mariam Krisht, a Lebanese designer based in Chicago, KIFMAKAN (كيفما كان) is a creative studio and a fundraising initiative rolled into one.
Born out of conflict, our work explores intersecting themes across Lebanon, Palestine and the broader MENA (Middle East & North Africa) region. Translated literally, our name means "in whatever way possible" – an expression often used to describe a rough and ready approach to getting things done.
At the heart of our design practice lies a commitment to amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and crafting more nuanced representations of our shared experiences. Despite the many challenges our people continue to face, this contribution is ultimately a celebration of our heritage, our cuisine, our regional dialect and our sense of humor – each its own form of resistance.
Proceeds from every sale will be directed to those in need – as an act of solidarity, not charity, this can take on many forms and is not limited to donations to NGOs.
